BSA raised the compression ratio of the Super Rocket engine to 9.25:1 and claimed a maximum power increase to 46bhp. Motor Cycle magazine tested a Rocket Gold Star in November 1962, summing up the new tested to 105mph BSA as a “scintillating high-performance road burner: good brakes, excellent rider comfort and docile traffic manners.” Produced for only two years, only 1,800 Rocket Gold Stars were ever made, and genuine examples are highly sought after today Dow won the Senior TT in 1955 – and preparation of customer’s bikes, he had built a reputation and a wealth of knowledge of BSA high performance singles and saw an opportunity to bridge the end of Gold Star production to the new unitary engine/gearbox models being released.
