All-new Chevrolet styling for 1966 and a 396 CI big-block 4-speed power team push this Regal Red Chevelle SS convertible ahead of the rest. The Chevelle was available in four different variations for 1966, and the SS396 ruled at the top. The combination of big V-8 power in a midsize package made the Chevelle capable of 14-second quarter miles right off the showroom floor. This Chevelle is equipped with the special-order 396 Turbo-Jet V-8 that was rated for 360 HP with a single 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust. The high-output performer gets the power down to the ground through a 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt rear axle. The engine is finished to a high level of detail as well. Power steering and power brakes work with the all coil-spring independent front suspension with anti-sway bar for Super Sport control. Super Sport dual simulated air intakes and swept forward styling add an aggressive look to the Chevrolet intermediate, with clean Coke-bottle styling accented by SS396 badging on the grille and rear cove. Super Sport script and checkered flag badges let other drivers know what's going on under the hood. Dropping the power convertible top sheds light on the parchment interior that features an underdash “knee-knocker” tachometer and Strato-Bucket seats around a center shift console with a clock. A Delco pushbutton AM radio waits to belt out period-correct musical accompaniment to the big-block 4-speed soundtrack. Wide Oval redline tires dressed in simulated mag wheel covers and a matching trunk-mounted spare get rubber down onto the road.
