PHS documents

This first-year GTO comes with Pontiac Historical Society documentation that verifies its factory origins. The GTO is often credited with ushering in the power-crazed muscle car era that so many enthusiasts look back on with fond memories. The good vibrations of this time period still resonate today as a golden age for American automobiles. The GTO had all the right traits to play at the front of the pack in the muscle car game. Thinner head gaskets bumped up compression, a recurved distributor delivered more aggressive, advanced, tuned and jetted carburetors with progressive throttle linkage and improved throttle response, and locking valve rocker nuts prevented unwanted self-adjusting. The optional Tri-Power 389 CI Pontiac V-8 was a potent performer. The V-8 channels power through an optional 4-speed manual transmission and Safe-T-Track limited-slip with 3.90 gears. A heavy-duty radiator keeps the combination cool, and bright valve covers add some show to the go. Sport-tuned suspension with a factory anti-sway bar and 4-link rear axle work with power steering for balanced road handling. The GTO wears its factory-correct Aquamarine paint and parchment interior combination. Morrokide-upholstered bucket seats surround the center console with a Hurst shifter for three-pedal 4-speed command. The cabin features a selection of period-correct aftermarket equipment including a column-mounted Sun 7,000 RPM tachometer, auxiliary gauge cluster beneath the dash and Flarestat 105 four-way hazard flasher. Tinted glass reduces glare, and a pushbutton AM radio with rear seat speaker delivers entertainment.
